2023 January 8th – Re-enacting Chariots Of Fire
For the re-enactment of the 'Chariots of Fire' running scene I headed down to Southport beach. While the sunset looks fantastic, the weather conditions were somewhat different. A barefoot run in icy cold waters at the start of January wasn't the smartest thing I did today, and that's not mentioning the blustery winds and the running on shells that pierced into my feet as I strode across the beach. While I was absolutely frozen by the time the filming was completed, it was a great day and Lexi (my pooch) loved the day out to the beach too.

Chariots Of Fire Running Scene Re-enactment - Southport Beach

The scene that I was re-enacting was the famous running scene from 'Chariots of Fire', as they strode along the beach. To try to replicate the clothing I found an old white rugby shirt (not that I ever played rugby). The shorts were somewhat harder to source, I didn't have any white shorts to hand and deliveries wouldn't have arrived in time so an old bed sheet was repurposed into a fine pair of shorts. These shorts were fine as long as I kept movements to a minimum, and bending over was a strict no go!

For the observant ones upon you, you may have identified a minor problem, keeping movements to a minimum and filming a running scene do not fit very well together! This made the editing of the running scene a little more problematic as I tried to prevent the short clip becoming an 18 rated film.

I chose to film at the end of the day to try to avoid the crowds that were out for their weekend walks while they were still intent on sticking to their new years resolutions. While this made filming without interference great, the sea was a fair way out and was quickly starting to come in making me up against the clock.
